Dear Sam,
O.K., after much searching there seems to be a utility called
UPDAT. You run this by typing RUN UPDAT in the data area you
want to convert, enter 1 and then your user number. If possible
I would backup the data you want to convert before doing this,
since it isn't done that often anymore I can't really guarantee
it is going to work.
The instructions I found say this:
1) inside the latest (31DEC03) AIPS, back up, move, or remove all your
data from a certain data area (your choice) so that there's nothing
shown with "CLRN; CATA".
2) exit from AIPS, cd to the data area, and delete any ??D*.nnn\; where
nnn is your user number in exteded hex (use EHEX in AIPS to get it)
THIS IS CRUCIAL: you need to excise any D format files for that user
number from the area before proceeding.
3) From the Unix command line, type:
RUN UPDAT
and enter 1 at the prompt, give "aips# aips#" (aips#- your user number
in decimal) as the user number range, give the right disk number range,
and enter the version of AIPS in which the old data were written
(15OCT94?).
Get back to me if there are problems.
Cheers,
Amy
