We have had numerous reports of failures with gcc/g77 3.3.3 and
3.3.4.

I had a couple of problems with 3.2.2 but found the subroutines and
made them no-opt and allwas well with 3.2.2 and 3.2.3.

We have not tried 3.4 so I am now building my machine under RedHat 9
with 3.4.2.  I will let you know although I warn that it is hard for
me to test enough to be sure of things.
