[daip] I've broken my AIPS.

Dear umm, aip?
	I have just attempted to update my aips installation from 31DEC02
to 31DEC03, but my new installation does not give me either a TV, msg
window or tek server. Assuming one of the improvements in this release was
not to remove all of the above I think I have done something wrong. I have
followed the instructions pretty closely, I thought.

I am installing on redhat Linux 2.4.7 and have opted to change
$HOME/.AIPSRC as per the web instructions. I also downloaded a new version
of install.pl and edited /etc/services as instructed.

At the end of the installation process I get the following messages after
INSTEP4:

# disks, # cat entries/disk (<0 => private catlgs) (2 I)
# interactive AIPS, # batch queues (2 I)
# tape drives (I)

AipsWiz: enter the magic incantations. If it works, you will see
AipsWiz: the message 'Popsgen complete' momentarily...

....When I start AIPS it's fine but will not give me TV etc. If I try
'tvlod' I get:

>tvlod

AIPS 1: ZSSSOP: CHANNEL ASSIGN ERROR FOR LUN 9
AIPS 1: YTVOPN: TV OPEN ERROR 6

......and then:

The full text of the error or warning message cannot be safely formatted
in this environment. You may get a more descriptive message by running the
program as a non-root user or by removing the suid bit on the executable.
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: %s

...which I've never seen. If I try as non-root I get many messages similar
to:

XASERVERS: Start XAS on pcdot4, DISPLAY pcdot4:0
XASERVERS: Start graphics server TEKSRV on pcdot4, DISPLAY pcdot4:0
XASERVERS: Start message server MSGSRV on pcdot4, DISPLAY pcdot4:0
XAS: cannot connect to X server pcdot4:0
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: pcdot4:0
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: pcdot4:0
MSGWRT ERROR      6 AT OPEN
ZDCHI1: ZERROR: ON FILE DA00:SPD000000;

 ZMSGER: ON FILE DA01:MSD001000.001;
 ZMSGER: IN ZDAOPN ERRNO = 13 (Permission denied)
MSGWRT ERROR      6 AT OPEN

etc etc etc.

I could spend another couple of days trying different combinations of
parameters in various setup files but I thought an e-mail would be better
as it's probably something obvious.

Any help would be much appreciated and if it's a silly mistake please do
not hassitate to say so!

All the best,

Marcel.
