     If the local machine does not have aips installed and does not
have access to the aips installation, then you must run all programs
on the compute server. You may still display on the local machine
when running in a window logged into the compute servers by making
sure that the $DISPLAY variable is set to point at the local machine.
You should the run a "local" TV on the compute server. Thus the
"aips" command needs to get some extra info:

     aips tv=local (use lowest n if present else start n=1)
     aips tv=local:n    (n = 0 -> a new one, else use number n)

This should then bring up the usual 3 windows - a TV, a message
window, and a Tektronix emulator.

       This does not work well when passwords are required.

Amy made all the reasonable suggestions about this list of error
messages - write permission is required and ssh should be configured
to avoid passwords.
