Taehyun, Jung

I am glad that your aunderstanding of UVCON has improved.

UVCON uses RH equatorial coordinate system inside. So the positions
of antennas given at the four coordinate systems are recalculated to
the RH equatorial coordinate system.

Let me consider the two examples to make the concept of col 9 more clear.

Example 1
All your array antennas are given at the same coordinate system. The
origin is at the Earth center (col.1=0,2). Then the values of the
antenna positions at an RH equatorial coordinate sistem will be of
order of millions meters. Puting COL9=1 in all rows of the input file,
you can decrease the coordinates to the order of the array size.
This is the only advantage COL9=1 at this case.
Actually the simulation result does not depend on the value at COL9 at
this case because COL9=1 at all rows provides the shift of the whole array,
such a shift does not change the array property (the shift does not
change the baselines).

Example 2
You have VLA given at the RH equatorial coordinate sistem with origin
at the VLA center.
You want to add several 'new' antennas located outside of the VLA.
The positions of the new antenna are given at LAT, LON, Elevation COL1=2
You know that UVCON allows using different coordinate system for different antennas. At this case you must using COL9=0 for the VLA antennas and COL9=1
for the 'new' antennas. Using COL9=1 for the 'new' antennas will make the
origin of the coordinate system the same as for the VLA antennas: at the array center given at the line 2 of the input file.

I hope it will help. If not, ask again

Dear Dr. L. Kogan,

Since I had received your reply about UVCON, I could understand how the
UVCON worked. Looking back to it now, I'm a bit ashamed of myself for asking
such a thing. As you said, I should have read the explain notes more
carefully. However, it was very hard to solve the problem for me at that
time. Anyway, I'm really appreciative of your advice.

As the title says, I have another question about UVCON. According to help
file of UVCON, we can give the array configuration as an input file.
Specifying this, I wonder how I can put the proper value of column 9 - Put
one if the coordinates are given relatively the Earth's center (VLBI case).
For the KVN (Korean VLBI Network), the sites are about 400km away from each
other. Is it better using this col. 9? If so, how can I set the values from
Col. 1 to Col. 4? I'm very glad if you tell me how to specify it with
examples. This may be another poor question.

Thank you for reading. I hope to hear from you.

Sincerely yours,

Taehyun, Jung
