I will take a look at the stuff you sent.

AVSPC and SPLIT simply average data, but IMAGR when it "averages" data
actually grids each spectral channel separately in the UV plane and
subtracts components a channel at a time etc.  Bandwidth synthesis is
the fancy name for what it does.

One has to be careful that all calibrations are applied before
averaging - this should be fine in SPLIT.  AVSPC only works on
pre-calibrated data.
