To Whom It May Concern:

I'm having trouble with the installation of AIPS on my Mac
PowerBook G4: the operating system on this machine is Mac OS X
(Jaguar 10.3.4). I followed the instructions at the web site
www.aoc.nrao.edu/aips/Mac.shtml and I ran into trouble when I
tried to install the gnu compiler (step #3). While I was able to
run the "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/gnu" command without
any apparent trouble, I encountered error messages when I tried
to use the gnumake bootstrap command:

%gnumake bootstrap
if [ x"" != x ]; then \
   gcc -c -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -g -O2 -I. -I./../include -W -Wall -Wtraditional
-pedantic getruntime.c -o pic/getruntime.o; \
else true; fi
gcc -c -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -g -O2 -I. -I./../include -W -Wall -Wtraditional
-pedantic getruntime.c -o getruntime.o
gcc: Internal error: Segmentation fault (program
/usr/libexec/gcc/darwin/ppc/cpp-precomp)
Please submit a full bug report.
gnumake[1]: *** [getruntime.o] Error 1
gnumake: *** [all-libiberty] Error 2
%

Please let me know if you have any advice or suggestions on how
to proceed from here: I'm not even sure if I should contact you or
if it would be better for me to contact Apple instead. I believe
I have installed all of the necessary prerequisite software (like
Mac OS X Developer Tools and X11): let me know if you have any
suggestions about how to proceed from here. Thanks in advance for
your time and cooperation -- I appreciate it!

Cheers, Tom
