------- start of forwarded message (RFC 934 encapsulation) -------

Prior to rebooting thuban was reporting SCSI bus errors for
it's exabyte. Now after a reboot I can successfully read/write
tapes.

I don't know how to write a tape via aips so could you or
somebody else verify it does in fact work.

The errors in the logs were indicitive of a SCSI device
disconnect. My guess is she had some procedural or tape
problem and attempted to fix it by power cycling the tape
drive. This won't fix anything but will probably ensure that
it won't work again.

Looking at the failure modes I don't think it's coincidence
that all the drives she tried don't work and all the drives she
didn't do.

In any event I'd like to know if aips can write to it before
I reboot capella and assume the problem is corrected.

------- end -------

Things work fine now on thuban - and probably will on capella after a
reboot. The drives in the other room (next door) worked fine before
the helpdesk folks did the above.
