Hi Eric (or the designated aip),

Good to see you last month at the Users Comm meeting.
I've got an aips question for you.  In the last few days we've started
getting errors like:
>go calib
AIPS 3: TASK HAS NOT BEGUN IN   32.5 SECONDS
AIPS 3: Begin check for any 'standard' scratch files
AIPS 3: Scratch files -- destroyed:    0  still active:    0
AIPS 3: Resumes

The task truly does not begin (watching with Unix top, for example,
never shows CALIB.EXE, just AIPS.EXE briefly).  It also happens with
some other tasks, but most tasks work fine.  Calib with the same
inputs ran successfully last week.  The only change in our setup since
then is the installation of a few custom aips programs (written by my
colleague Larry Molnar, compiled with COMLNK).  We don't see how that
could be related to CALIB and other tasks failing to start, but have
very few other ideas of what's wrong and no ideas of how to fix it.
Can you help us?  We're running the 31DEC02 version on two Linux
machines (but no midnight job).
