Hi Folks,
I'm installing AIPS on my Linux box and have run into a problem I
don't understand (not a surprise). By the way, since I run my Linux box
without a mail server you probably didn't get my registration info (I have
attached it to this email).
The problem seems to involve LINK not finding "-lncurses". I then get LINK
telling me I have a "wimpy compiler" and it dies of unnatural causes. I have
copied below a representative section of the screen printout right before
dying. In checking the record file I am told to check I see lots of
instances of things failing but they all seem to involve LINK and
"/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lncurses." Any suggestions? By the way, I also
checked your installer FAQ and note that it cautions about not getting all
of the files when using ftp. My question, and I don't know if it is relavent
to my problem, is how might I have missed some files if I did a straight
download of the tarball? Does that guarantee I will get all of the files of
which you speak?
I appreciate any advice you may have. Oh, by the way, I am just a lowly
astronomer at a university whose IT department has no linux or unix
experience. As far as I know mine is the only non-windows machine on the
campus and they have no interest in providing me any support, so please bear
with me.
Cheers,
Tyler
