i don't know whether this helps as diagnostic.  i can't run my old aips
right now, because all the .SH files, etc., have been overwritten.
when I try to, I get messages about LOCALHOST not being in HOSTS
file, DADEVS file, etc.  this is probably connected with the switch
to LAPTOP="YES" (which was not in the previous version?)
