Michael,
The task GPHAS was written by Ketan Desai with the purpose to increase sencitivity of the baseline Space RT- ground based RTs. It was supposed that
the ground based TR are located rather compact in comparison with the orbit RT
distance from the Earth. Using VLBA (10antennas) with orbiting RT and considering orbiting RT has much less antenna, we can expect improving sencitivity with the orbiting RT in SQRT(10)~3 times.
The task GPHAS has not been tested. Look the extract from the HELP file:
!!!!Im sorry, i cant explain to you how this works.
!!!![just kidding, this part is under development - any volunteers?]
On the other hand I proved that using FRING with DPARM(1)=3 gives the same improvement of the sencitivity on the baselines ground RTs- smal antenna orbitingRT.
You can look the detaial at: my VLBI SCIENTIFIC memo No13, 1996
"Global Ground VLBI Network as a Tied Arrayfor Space VLBI"
At that time and now I told that nothing should be written (invented)
to improve the sencitivity of the baselines ground RTs- smal antenna orbitingRT.
So my conclusion: do not use GPHAS, uese FRING with DPARM(1)=3 !!!!!!!!!
Leonia
BTW. Did you try AT table?

Does anyone use GPHAS? Does it work?
I tried the version of 31DEC03; (2003.02.17:05:00:09). WHen I ran it, it
failed with the following messages:
GPHAS1 18:05:43 Task GPHAS (release of 31DEC03) begins
GPHAS1 18:05:43 GUVIN: Selecting Subarray 1
GPHAS1 18:05:43 OBJECT NAMED Input IS NOT DEFINED
GPHAS1 18:05:43 GUVIN: error 1
GPHAS1 18:05:43 GPHAS: error 1
I looked around a bit, and semi-randomly changed line 445 of the code
line # --------GPHAS.FOR-----------------------------------------------
442 CALL IN2OBJ (POPS, NKEY4, IKEY4, OKEY4, UVIN, IRET)
443 IF (IRET.NE.0) GO TO 990
444 C DOCALIB
445 CALL OGET ('Input', 'DOCALIB', TYPE, DIM, XDOCAL, CDUM, IRET)
446 IF (IRET.NE.0) GO TO 990
447 LTEMP = XDOCAL.GT.0.0
To read "CALL OGET (POPS, 'DOCALIB',...", just based on the other OGET
lines nearby. It actually ran after this modification.
However I have two questions:
a) Is this a sensible change to the code?
b) Not sure how to interpret the output file - all visibilities have
baseline REFANT-REFANT, identically 0 phases and weights, and
amplitudes ranging from aobut -300 to about +360. Which doesn't make
a lot of sense but maybe that's just me. I would have expected
baseline [special antenna]-REFANT, with +ive amplitudes and non-zero
phases.
michael bietenholz, always causing trouble :-)
