I assume that you are running on a computer at your local institution.
The assignment of numbers is then under the direction of that
institution.  The NRAO assigns numbers so that people who visit here
can be separated and can be assigned particular visitor computer(s).
If the computer is your own workstation, then you are free to use any
number from 2 to 46000 of your own choosing.  People here, on their
own desktops, often use more than one number.  This lets them keep the
data from several different projects separate (AIPS has a very flat
file system).

In other words - use any positive number you like except 1 which is
special.
