Hi Ian,

CPARM(1) should be given at the units used by the image.
Type 'imh' and you'll see the following line:
AIPS 1: Minimum=-5.45131616E-06 Maximum= 2.20364761E-02 JY/PIXEL
^^^^^^^^
For this example the image is given at JY/PIXEL
>(2) CPARM(3) - Max star area in pixels. Is a 'pixel' here the same as the
>cell in IMAGR?
Actually 'explain' gives MIN instead of your max
CPARM(3) Minimum area (in pixels) a star must cover to be
considered a detection.
Anyway, Pixel size is given at the header again:
The pixel sizes at the RA and declination directions are given at the column
'Coord incr' (the first two lines).

I wish to use the task STFND to search for sources of emission in a
field. I have two questions:
(1) CPARM(1) - threshold brightness. Is this Jy/beam?
(2) CPARM(3) - Max star area in pixels. Is a 'pixel' here the same as the
cell in IMAGR?
All I want to do is search for emission from an area larger than the
synthesized beam, AND with flux/beam greater than 72 uJy/beam (3 * rms
noise).
Regards,
Ian Pattison
