[daip] Installation problem

Dear Aips helper,
	I am trying very hard to install AIPS on a LINUX system (RedHat 
7.0). I have followed the instructions to install the suggested compilers 
given the shortcomings of those supplied with this version of RedHat (I 
went for gcc-3.0.2). I just want a simple 1-user installation. Everything 
seems to work until the point where FILAIP starts, whereupon I get a lot 
of error messages begining:

Messages in AIPS looking like this normally mean the disk is full 
but there is plenty of room on my disk (1.2GB). What is going wrong?

Also, can I read a tape written with 'FITTP' outside of AIPS with 
something like tar?
