Where did you look.  The aips web page is 
     http://www.aoc.ntao.edu/aips
On that page there is near the top information on the current release
(31DEC02) that is clickable and will tell you much about downloading
and installing.  On the page near the top is a clickable guide to the
installation procedure - a long document on how install.pl works.

I do not feel that we need provide you anything more - other than the
warnings on the main aips page about versions of GNU g77 - I am unsure
about what comes with Mandrake but I think it is one of the bad ones.
If so, you will need to install gcc 2.95.3 somewhere on your machine
and the warning box on our main page points to an installation
instructions page for that.

If this is not enough what is it you expect of us?

BTW - the install works so well that I would be a long way along in it
if I were doing it rather than typing this.
