Martin has provided the necessary information your message did not.
AIPS does support Gaussians in the Clean Components files, but can
support them with gridded model subtraction only if all Gaussians are
of the same size and shape.

This means that FRING should have been able to do DFT modeling -
please provide the messages.

AIPS uses Gaussians (circular) to do multi-resolution Clean in IMAGR
and all modeling therefrom.
