G'day Pat,
      I agree with you that the standard dot files are flawed in this
regard. But the reality is that most users at the AOC, and in
particular all the visitors, use these files that are supplied with
their account. 

I asked James and he said that we where not going to get new dot files
for at least six months. And even when we do they are not going to be
retrofitted to existing accounts.

So in the short and probably medium term we have to deal with the
aliasing of echo.
