"The AIPS Unix Porting Reference Manual" is part of the AIPS
distribution: 
$AIPSPUBL/UGUIDE.PS.

There is already a Linux/PPC port of AIPS and we are expect it to be
contributed
to the AIPS code base after it is cleaned up a little. You will save
yourself some
work if you wait for this to happen.
