Northwestern University (NU) and the Adler Planetarium announce a new
three-year position in teaching and public outreach for an observational
astronomer.  Start date: fall of 1999.  Responsibilities include teaching
and developing new astronomy courses at Adler and NU for the benefit of NU
undergraduates as well as the development and promotion of an Adler/NU
public observing program with the recently restored Dearborn telescope (an
18.5-inch Clark refractor) and the Doane Observatory (0.5 m Cassegrain
reflector). Experience with CCD camera operation and image processing is
also required. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between
the two institutions, drawing on the scientific and instructional
resources of each.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in astronomy,
experience teaching astronomy in a university setting, and an interest in
curricular innovation and public outreach activities.  Information about
