Version 2.0.0 of SLIME, the interactive model-fitting program for
AIPS, is now available. SLIME is an X Window System program that
allows you to build and modify a model radio-brightness distribution
by directly manipulating a graphical representation of the model and
to see the effects of changes in the model on the predicted
visibilities.

Precompiled versions of SLIME are available for

* Solaris 2.4 and 2.5 running on SPARC-based machines (may also work
  for Solaris 2.3)
* Digital UNIX 4.0 running on alpha-based machines (might work on some
  earlier versions of the OS)

Both versions include a script that will install SLIME into an
existing AIPS installation (you can view SLIME as an AIPS "plug-in").

SLIME users will not see any major changes from the previous released
version (1.0.2) apart from the fact that a defect related to channel
averaging has been fixed. However, you will need to get this version
of SLIME if you want to use it with the 15APR97 version of AIPS.

You can download SLIME from the SLIME homepage
(http://info.aoc.nrao.edu/~cflatter/slime.html) or by anonymous ftp
from ftp.aoc.nrao.edu (directory /pub/cflatter). Installation
instructions are given on the web page. There is no official
source-code distribution for this release but you can still obtain
the code by contacting me directly.

On an unrelated subject: I have also put together a web page that
contains information on the relation between the AIPS DDT benchmark
and the SPEC benchmarks commonly quoted by workstation manufacturers.
