New version of SLIME available for AIPS

Version 1.0.2 of SLIME is now available. SLIME is an window-based,
interactive model-fitting program for AIPS (15JAN96 or later).

This version fixes some defects in version 1.0.1 but introduces no new
features.

* The widths of Gaussian components are now reported correctly (SLIME
1.0.1 reported half widths instead of full widths).

* The model calculation no longer assumes that the position angles
of Gaussian components are stored internally in degrees (they
are in radians). This error caused the least-squares tool to
become unstable with models that contained Gaussian components:
if you are getting a lot of false convergence and singular
convergence messages with position angles stocking at
+/- 180 degrees, this is the problem.

* The position angles of Gaussian components are now stored in degrees
in clean-component tables rather than radians. This error will
only have been noticeable if you have tried using CC tables from
SLIME in other tasks (or vice versa).

If you already have version 1.0.1, I strongly recommend that you
upgrade to version 1.0.2.

The new version is available as a complete source code distribution
or as a set of patches for version 1.0.1 by anonymous ftp from
ftp.aoc.nrao.edu (go to directory /pub/cflatter). The manual and
installation instructions are unchanged. The files can also be
down-loaded from the SLIME home page at
http://info.aoc.nrao.edu/~cflatter/slime.html, which also has
more information about the program and a couple of screen-shots.
