From awootten at NRAO.EDU Thu Jan 6 11:45:18 2000 From: awootten at NRAO.EDU (Al Wootten) Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 11:45:18 -0500 (EST) Subject: [asac] ALMA Scientific Advisory Committee mailing list Message-ID: <200001061645.LAA11403@polaris.cv.nrao.edu> Greetings for the New Year! I have set up a mailing list of the 26 members of the ASAC, as listed on the ASAC home page at http://www.alma.nrao.edu/committees/sac/sac.html Any mail sent to asac at nrao.edu will automatically propagate to everyone else on the list, and will be archived at NRAO. This is the first message; if it has not reached your preferred email address please let me know and I will alter the list. It was agreed that ASAC meetings take place on the 2nd Monday of each month, at 16:30 UT. The next meeting is on 10 January 2000 at 1630UT. I will shortly distribute a telephone number to call for that meeting. A draft ASAC charter and agenda from Neal may be viewed at: http://www.cv.nrao.edu/~awootten/mmaimcal/asac_charter.html Please feel free to comment on the draft, or add to the tentative agenda. It is located at the border of Leiden, within 5-10 minutes drive from the Leiden train station and Leiden Observatory. The castle dates from the 17'th century, lies in a little park, and has recently been renovated into a conference center. The 19'th century "Koetshuis" (Coach House) has been refurbished into a modern three star hotel. The rooms are simple and small (as most European hotel rooms), but they all have private bath, t.v., telephone etc. There is also a sauna and fitness room. The "Orangerie" has been converted into a restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner (if needed). The meeting will start on Friday morning at 10:30 am, so that people can fly/drive/train in that morning. It will end around 4 pm on Saturday. For Friday evening, a dinner in an Indonesian restaurant in The Hague will be arranged, hosted by our National Organization for Scientific Research NWO. In order to finalize the arrangements, please fill out the accomodation form below and return it as soon as possible to my secretary, Janet Soulsby (soulsby at strw.leidenuniv.nl). DEADLINE: JANUARY 21. Information on travel to Leiden etc. will be sent to you in early February. Please let Janet know if your mailing address is different from that listed on the ALMA Web site. There are many direct flights from the US into Amsterdam with US carriers (or KLM code-shared with NorthWest); fares are cheap at the moment! From Schiphol airport, it takes 15 minutes by train and 5-10 minutes by taxi to reach the conference site. Looking forward to see you all in Leiden!
