From sla at ucolick.org Sun May 18 01:43:49 2003 From: sla at ucolick.org (Steve Allen) Date: Sat, 17 May 2003 22:43:49 -0700 Subject: [fitsmime] draft text of RFC ready for review and approval Message-ID: <20030518054349.GA8540@ucolick.org> Greetings to all Things have lain quiet since shuttle Columbia broke up, but I am hoping to get the MIME proposal for FITS into the formal approval pipeline now. I believe I have incorporated the few comments on the draft as it was last published. I have tidied up the draft so that it conforms exactly to the format required by the IESG, and this includes a table of contents for the 20 pages of ASCII text. The main web page is http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/fits/mime/ The draft itself and the comments on the draft are linked there. I believe it is reasonable to set a goal of submitting the draft to the RFC editor in late June or early July. I would like to receive comments from FITSMIME now. In about 2 weeks I will ask for comments from FITSBITS/sci.astro.fits. At about the same time I expect to ask the AAS WGAS FITS Committee for approval to get an official title for the Internet Draft. If all goes smoothly the IAUFWG could be asked for approval before departing for the GA in Sydney. -- Steve Allen UCO/Lick Observatory Santa Cruz, CA 95064 sla at ucolick.org Voice: +1 831 459 3046 http://www.ucolick.org/~sla PGP: 1024/E46978C5 F6 78 D1 10 62 94 8F 2E 49 89 0E FE 26 B4 14 93 From pence at tetra.gsfc.nasa.gov Thu May 29 14:02:07 2003 From: pence at tetra.gsfc.nasa.gov (William Pence) Date: Thu, 29 May 2003 14:02:07 -0400 Subject: [fitsmime] draft text of RFC ready for review and approval References: <20030518054349.GA8540@ucolick.org> Message-ID: <3ED64B1F.E7963664@tetra.gsfc.nasa.gov> Steve Allen wrote: > > The main web page is > http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/fits/mime/ > The draft itself and the comments on the draft are linked there. > > I believe it is reasonable to set a goal of submitting the draft to > the RFC editor in late June or early July. > > I would like to receive comments from FITSMIME now. My only comment is about the following statement on page 15: "The standard provides means to assert that some data arrays contain complex numbers." I assume this refers to the use of CTYPEn = 'COMPLEX' in section 5.4 of the first WCS paper [WCS1]. Can you add a reference to this, since this usage is likely to be rather obscure to many readers of this MIME document? In this case the adoption of WCS I has merely standardized a practice which has existed since the appendix of the original FITS paper. -- Steve Allen UCO/Lick Observatory Santa Cruz, CA 95064 sla at ucolick.org Voice: +1 831 459 3046 http://www.ucolick.org/~sla PGP: 1024/E46978C5 F6 78 D1 10 62 94 8F 2E 49 89 0E FE 26 B4 14 93
