[Difx-users] Git migration meeting {External}

Thanks to everyone who joined the meeting today/yesterday. The minutes can
be found at the end of the agenda document, and the recording of the
meeting can be download (for the next ~month or so) from
https://swinburne.zoom.us/rec/share/dLp0akWnIt15S9-oxZFYsIczS73hFUwNA-G9iZAfRnKubll3D0MN0gm4xUFkBGw3.0pNWsv7oX12mpGhv?startTime=1653480186000
(Passcode: #C5Ayw&5). Any problems downloading, please let me know. I
think that link includes audio-only and transcribed audio as well if that
is of interest.

It was really great to get a chance to have a bit of live interaction again
for the first time in a while! And it was clear that both A) there is a lot
of energy to continue to improve the DiFX ecosystem, and B) it's a lot
easier to get that done via live interactions than purely over
email/slack. The key takeaways from this meeting were that:
1) We need a clear plan of when the incremental development on the DiFX-2.6
and -2.7 branches will cease (and be replaced by -2.8);
2) Making those releases will be greatly aided by an improved test suite;
and
3) The timing of a svn freeze and git start-up should be both clear and
sited at a time at which there is no ongoing changes in the live branches,
and no un-checked in code in trunk.

I think that it would be ideal to coordinate a svn freeze / git startup
with a workshop, whether that is remote, hybrid, or in-person. So the
questions I have for the community are:
i) when can we realistically aim to test and formally release e.g. 2.6.3
(or 4) and 2.7.1?
ii) will that be at an opportune time for a workshop week?

While we've traditionally held the DiFX workshops in September or October,
I think it should be possible to achieve i) before then, but would that be
at a time that enough people could commit to a workshop? I have gaps in my
schedule in the last week of July and the latter half of August, but I
realise that these times may conflict with Northern Hemisphere summer
vacations and/or conferences.

Please let me know your thoughts either here or on slack - let's aim to set
a date in the next week or two.

Cheers,
Adam
