Hello,
I am trying (unsuccessfully) to install AIPS locally on my M4 mac. I've followed the install wizard instructions here (https://www.aips.nrao.edu/install.shtml) and have modified the instructions when necessary to adjust for MACARM installation. My mac is updated to the most recent software release (26.5, but I selected OS14 ARM above since it was the latest option). Here are my process notes:
Download Install Wizard file install.pl from AIPS (called AipsWiz, cute) (https://www.aips.nrao.edu/index.shtml#CURRENT_RELEASE) and put it in /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS (specifically, I downloaded the 31DEC2025 version since it was ‘slushy’ at the time of install [June 15 2025])
Install Perl (pip install)
Ensure executable (ls -l install.pl, chmod +x install.pl if not -x)
Enter enter enter when possible, since MACARM binary distribution is included in the one I downloaded (or else you have to download the tarball for the distribution you want [which I could find none of…] and use that for the install)
Data location (has to be specified in installation; more can be added later by editing the two files DADEVS.LIST and NETSP in /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/DA00 directory): /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/DATA/BG320
Accepted current printer settings (no idea), paper format A4 (which is not US letter, but the only other choice was A… not even sure what this is used for tbh)
Can add list of tape drives after the install by editing TPDEVS.LIST in /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/DA00 directory (currently none, since i have no idea what this means)
List of IP addresses: accepted for now (only localhost 127.0.0.1); can add more later by editing TPHOSTS file in /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/DA00 (again)
Accepted settings (and prayed):
AIPS_ROOT (screen 3): /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS
Group (screen 4): staff
Group Write (screen 4): YES
Architecture (screen 5): MACARM
Site name (screen 5): VLBAPSR
AIPS hosts (screen 6): LOCALHOST
Data areas (screen 7): /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/DATA/BG320
Printers (screen 8): Paper type (screen 8): A4
Tape drives (screen 9):

Ran for like a full five minutes… and then told me it’s about to start running MAKE.BMNJ:
MAKE.BMNJ - If you wish to change any of these settings, refer to the comments at the start of /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/31DEC25/SYSTEM/UNIX/UPDATE/UPDCONFIG and edit /Users/lydiaguertin/AIPS/31DEC25/MACARM/SYSTEM/VLBAPSR/UPDCONFIG yourself.
I keep getting a DADEVS.PL error because “no disks selected at all”, despite data directories (that do exist) being included in that DADEVS.LIST file… I'm really unsure how to proceed, and have tried wiping the install and re-installing to no avail. Plz send help, thank you!
