<div>The original 1 MHz of not-overlapping bandwidth from the coarse channels would correspond to 4 channels, so it is entirely possible that there is an issue with something like fractional sample correction that is leaving a residual slope in phase within blocks of 4 chan. Nevertheless I would expect that any application of any delay, no matter how silly, should not create non-closing errors when there were none before. I note also that if I recorrelate with updated delays, such that none of the antennas have delays more than a couple of 10s of ns, then FRING gets good solutions and the calibrated data looks fine (although still with the 4-channel slope problem). So I think I definitely have something to investigate and fix, but it might be worth trying to check and reproduce this behaviour on e.g. VLBA data with similar delays and similar frequency resolution. Otherwise, if I can find and fix the problem that is leading to the sawtooth phase, then I can see if AIPS still generates non-closing errors when there are large initial delays (but no sawtooth phase on 4 channel blocks).<br /></div>
