In the configuration definitions for each subband/spectral window there are parameters for frequency, number of channels and channel width, and total (subband) bandwidth. There are continuum subbands (64 channels of each 2MHz in 128 MHz) that are the same between the data sets and there are presumably line subbands that typically have 128 (up to 2048) channels of 62.5 kHz (down to 3.9 kHz) and it is these subbands that (apart from #9) are different in frequency between the data sets.</div><div><br></div><div>However I now realize that your question may not be about the different data sets, but between configuration 0 and configuration 1 in each individual data set? This usually happens when the correlator somehow is reset during the observation or when the resource actually is different somehow. Whereas the observer specified only one resource, or the intention had to only specify one, there are two resource configurations in the data that appear the same, for example because the number of antennas in the array changed, or because unintentionally more than one resource was used. <br></div><div>From the g6p5 ASDMList, I see that a configuration change occurred between scan 508 and 509, at UT 06:09:39.4. Normally the operators would note something happening in the pdf observing log, but I see nothing like that. Similar for the g38p5 run, between scan 256 and 257 at 03:55:29.1 the config changes from 0 to 1, but then it changes back to config 0 at 03:55:40.1 between scan 258/259, which would not happen with an antenna number change. Other than the first data set, I am wondering about this second being due to the person scheduling and using a resource that for example is different in integration time for those two scans (this is why we tell people not to use the same resource name when they create more than one as this is not easy to recognize otherwise). So if you have access to the OPT, look up that particular scheduling block. The reports page, first table will tell you if there is more than one resource defined for that observation - and if so check the integration time in the first column, or the doppler settings in the columns much more to the right between the resources.<br></div><div><br></div><div>I'm not very familiar with Obit but I am with AIPS (using BDFLIST and BDF2AIPS which use BDFIn in Obit). In AIPS - and likely in Obit - you would have to import the data twice, once with config 0 and one with config 1 to create two data sets. You can then use DBCON in AIPS to make a single data set, at least for the g6 position. If the two scans in g38 indeed by accident have different resources you can try that as well, but it may not completely work to combine the data (either way you would also need to resort the combined data using UVSRT with SORT'TB') depending on what is actually different between them.</div><div><br></div><div>Hopefully this answers your questions<br></div><div><br></div>
