It really cannot be right but it was an attempt to do the right thing even when BMAJ et al were not specified.. Starting in August 2019, I added the option, done by default, of smoothing the residual when possible to the resolution specified in the user's BMAJ, BMIN, BPA and then correcting the per beam by a scaling. A value of -1 was added to get the old behavior. The smoothing is done by determining the Gaussian deconvolution of the user's beam and that fit to the dirty beam and</div><div>then by brute force convolving the residual with this deconvolved beam (if the deconvolution allows a good solution). Your results suggest that the +1 option found the natural beam to be smaller than that fit due I suppose to negative near-in sidelobes.<br></div><div><br></div>
