Hi,

I have two versions of AIPS installed (31DEC07 and 31DEC17). I installed them in different subdirectories (aips07 and aips17, respectively). I'm able to open the 31DEC17 version of AIPS, but have been unable to open 31DEC07 and access the files from a previous reduction done in that aips07 directory. Here are the things I have tried:

I tried opening the 07 version from within my aips07 directory. I had backed up the ~/.AIPSRC file prior to installing the new 31DEC17 version, so I made the ~/.AIPSRC file the backup one that should be referencing the 07 version. When I then try to open aips from the aips07 subdirectory (after “source LOGIN.SH” and “$CDTST”), I get the message that the aips command is not found by bash. (I reverted to the 31DEC17 .AIPSRC file after this failed.)

I tried using the OLD command when opening AIPS from my aips17 directory. I had edited the path of the OLD version in aips17/AIPSPATH.SH. The 07 version of AIPS opened successfully, but I was unable to access any of the files from the reduction I had done previously with the older software. However, files that I had loaded into the newer software were accessible.

In addition to what I tried in 2, I edited aips17/DA00/DADEVS.LIST to include the corresponding directory in the aips07 path. In this case, AIPS began to open, but got stuck looking for a file in booting and could not load fully.

My best guess is that I should have installed the 31DEC17 version in the same directory instead of splitting them into two separate subdirectories. However, I wanted to check about this before I went through the process of re-installation. Does this sound like a reasonable next step or is there something easier that I'm missing?

Thanks!
