Voice over IP
  Replace PBXs?
Test of latency conflicts for EVLA

At the EVLA coordination meeting last Monday, there was a desire to test
out latency issued associated with using Voice over IP (VoIP) over the M&C
Gigabit Ethernet. At that meeting, Gareth said he would investigate this
further. Mick reminded us that he has money in the ALMA TI budget to
acquire appropriate equipment to test out the interference of VoIP on
real-time traffic and vice versa; ALMA will also Gigabit Ethernet for
real-time communication with the antennas. He expects that this will be
    acquired later in 2002.

Upgrade of link to VLA site (omitted from agenda)

Mick said that ALMA will not need the additional bandwidth until April
2002. Gareth reported that Skip Lagoyda had not yet received pricing from
Bob Tacker (NMIMT) or from John Staats (Western NM). He will get pricing
for an additional T1 and for the upgrade of all services to T3/DS3.

Video equipment upgrade status

  AOC and VLA
  LAN contention issues

During the meeting, some time was spent trying to get GB auditorium
on-line. The remaining problem seemed to be the access to the NRAO-hub
(RADVision) from the newly deployed Polycom 128 there [cleared up after the
meeting]. This will also need to be tested in the AOC auditorium system.

LAN status in Green Bank
  Residence Hall complete?

Still awaiting additional cables to be pulled, especially for the
    first floor apartments.

Upgrade costs for RE discussions
  LANs in CV and SOC
  WAN access ($26k est.)

We need estimates for the two LAN upgrades before the RE discussion in
January, even if the money will be found from other projects.

Intranet re-bid
Still awaiting bid from Qwest and response from AT&T
  RFP/RFQ in January?
