The measured receiver noise temperatures with 4.0-8.0GHz IF are less than 60K in the LO frequency range of 90-110GHz, and minimum value of around 45K is achieved at 100GHz. The image rejection ratios are more than 10dB in the LO frequency range of 90-110GHz in the laboratory measurements. We have installed the sideband-separating SIS mixer into the cartridge-type receiver cryostat for Japanese prototype antenna and successfully observed a spectrum of ??CO(J = 1 - 0) from Orion KL and confirmed the image rejection ratio as large as 13 dB in the astronomical measurements. This result is the first astronomical observation with a waveguide type Sideband-Separating SIS mixer. (2) Worked on draft of ATF holography results document. Science/Computing: (1) Reviewed latest "System Design Description" document. (2) Reviewed latest "Time Synchronization Design Rules" document. Name: Clint Janes IPT: Back End Submitted JAO Quarterly and bi-weekly reports. Revised Site TB/BE ICD and sent to Simon and others for review. Prepared more input to PMCS. First try at V/F digitizer had too many problems and so scrapped. Now trying to nail down requirements better before embarking on new effort. Requested ICD for Ethernet switch, if it is indeed in BE digital rack. Currently, conflicting information. Prototype System Integrator wants long list of equipment for Tucson not in baseline or any other BE planning. Currently, deciding how best to respond. Butler National Radio Astronomy Observatory 2003-12-08 This memo presents some calculations related to requirements on subre?ector and feed positioning for the ALMA antennas. In order to keep gain loss at less than 1%, the axial (vertical) positioning error in the subre?ector should be less than about 0.09 ?, and in the feed should be less than about 0.9 ?. The lateral positioning error for the subre?ector should be less than about 0.45 ?, and for the feed should be less than about 10 ?. The rotational (tilt) error of the subre?ector should be less than about 5.5 ?mm arcminutes if the rotation is about the vertex of the subre?ector. If the rotation is about the prime focus, then this error can be much larger: about ??mm degrees. In this report, the problem will be re-examined and analyzed in a more generalized way. The result will be used to investigate the sensitivity of the phase of the beat note response to mismatches of the polarization states of the two incident light beams. The results will show accurate beat note phase can be recovered when the polarization states of the two light beams satisfy a specific mathematical relation between the polarization states at the point the two light beams are combined onto a single fiber. For systems with potentially depolarizing components, the condition is more stringent; the polarization states of the two light beams must be exactly matched when the two light beams are combined.
