John will be responsible for the day to day supervision and reporting of all ALMA Band 6 activities within the NRAO Charlottesville Technology Center. John will report to both John Payne (Head of ALMA at the NRAO Charlottesville Technology Center) and Charles Cunningham (ALMA Front-End IPT lead). The Band 6 project is both important and challenging. John brings the right mix of enthusiasm and skill to organize and lead the effort into full scale production. Please join us in congratulating John on this new challenge. Marc Rafal John Payne Charles Cunningham -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It has already gone through a couple of preliminary drafts, but it still contains some information that is uncertain or needs checking. The document is number 80.04.00.00-002-A and can be found at http://www.tuc.nrao.edu/~ldaddari/alma/systemDescription.pdf or on ALMAEDM under //ALMA //IPTs //System Engineering //Documentation . Your comments are welcome, along with those of anyone else who you think should check it at this stage. It might be discussed at the Richmond meeting next week. However, it's definitely in draft form, so this is not a request for formal review; that will probably come later. I don't want to burden anyone with the need to read this several times as it evolves, but any help you can provide in ensuring that it is correct will be appreciated. --Larry ===================================================================== Larry R. The observation of extrasolar planetary systems is thought to be one of the most important science drivers for ALMA. As such, we should have some idea of what the capabilities might be in this regard. In addition, ALMA will be the first instrument which will be able to detect, monitor, and even image (for the largest) a very large number of "regular" stars at wavelengths longer than the mid-IR. Again, we should have some idea of what our capabilities might be in this area. This was originally written up for a poster contributed to Symposium 202 at the IAU GA in 2000 in Manchester, and a shortened version was submitted to the proceedings of that symposium (Penny et al., unpublished to date).
