The goal is to get the ALMA top level requirements documents approved. The SRR will review these documents for completeness, contradictions, disagreements, errors and misinterpretations. At the end of the SRR we should be confident that we understand fully what it is we have to build. The documents to be reviewed include: Science Requirements document System Requirements document Sub-system Requirements documents Engineering Requirements documents External ICDs Safety Documents Product Assurance Requirements An EXCEL file listing these documents is attached. There are still some uncertainties in the ICD list which will have to be resolved. The documents to be reviewed should be submitted to the ALMAEDM as part of the document approval process. The schedule for the SRR is given below. Documents needed for the antenna RFP need to be approved earlier than other requirements documents. 15-Aug submit antenna RFP documents to EDM 25-Aug CCB approval of RFP documents 01-Sep submit remaining documents to EDM 19-Sep end of comment period 30-Sep document update complete 07-Oct CCB/SRR teleconference for approval The membership of the review panels and details of the review process will be distributed later. Questions and comments on the SRR should be sent to both Sramek and Haupt. SE IPT Dick Sramek Christoph Haupt -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... We have 397 registered users out of 400 possible. The cost is now $10,000 to add an additional 100 users plus about $20 annual maintenance fee per user. 24 of the recent new users are Japanese who have been given accounts. There are 89 registered users who have not logged on since 31-Dec-2002, which includes 56 users who have never logged on. I suggest we send the following e-mail to the 56 who have never logged on to ALMAEDM. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> We will soon be out of open slots to register new users onto ALMAEDM. Our records show that you have not used this system in 2003. I would like to close your account effective 15-August-2003. If you feel you still need to maintain an ALMAEDM account please reply to this e-mail. If I do not hear from you by 15-August-2003 I will assume you no longer need access to ALMAEDM. If in the future you need to access ALMAEDM please contact me to establish a new account. Stacy Oliver >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If we don't take this step we should purchase 100 more seats using ALMA funds. Since the Japanese staff only get limited access at this time, it may be premature to ask them to buy the next round of licenses. If anyone knows of users who no longer need their account, please e-mail Stacy. The list of 89 inactive users is attached. I'd like to distribute this e-mail on 8-Aug or 11-Aug. ..DS.. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Pety (Obs. de Paris/IRAM Grenoble),F. Gueth (IRAM Grenoble), S. Guilloteau (ESO/IRAM Grenoble), P. Teuben (U. Maryland), M. Wright (RAL, U.C.Berkeley) 2003-06-26 Keywords: Requirements, Offline, Software, Science, Calibration In this memo, we analyze the results of the audit of the AIPS++, and of evaluations of GILDAS and MIRIAD packages for compliance with the ALMA Offline Data Processing Requirements. These evaluations/audit show that about 2/3 of the SSR Requirements are fulfilled by each data reduction package, and almost 90% are fulfilled if we use existing software from all three packages. In a companion memo (465), we thus argue that ALMA will benefit greatly by using software from the existing packages which were designed for millimeter arrays. Indeed ALMA would then benefit of the daily use and expertise for the current working millimeter arrays over the next 10 years of ALMA construction. Pety (Obs. de Paris/IRAM Grenoble),F. Gueth (IRAM Grenoble), S. Guilloteau (ESO/IRAM Grenoble), P. Teuben (U. Maryland), M. Wright (RAL, U.C.Berkeley) 2003-06-26 Keywords: Interoperability, Offline, Software, Science, Calibration In this memo we argue that interoperability between the existing radio-interferometry packages provides a fast, robust, flexible, complete, and user-friendly data reduction package for ALMA. We discuss the meaning of these terms from the point of view of the end-user, the data reduction specialist, and the package maintainer, and show that an open software environment provides a cost effective, flexible, and scientifically more valuable data processing environment than a monolithic data reduction package. We discuss our first steps toward interoperation with MIRIAD and GILDAS using python as a command line interface. For a few years, python has become a natural candidate for the command line interface both inside and outside ALMA. This is the first step toward interoperability. We now suggest that ALMA should think about its data formats (both native and exchange) with the community to promote interoperability.
